That people need no longer to go into the mixerdrum for removing the caked concrete debris represents a huge IMPROVEMENT in the field of WORKING CONDITIONS.

The american NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) has investigated the working conditions in the mixerdrum while people manually jackhammered concrete in the mixerdrum. Follow this link and you will find a brochure with all the descriptions, results and recommandations.

Also there is a brochure which describes the work of jackhammering in the "require permit confined space" that a mixerdrum is. Follow this link and you can read about the working conditions, hazards and precautions to prevent serious injuries while working in the mixerdrum.

FUEL CONSUMPTION

The European concrete industry counts for fuel consumption 4 Liter / 100 km / 1000 kg

Hardened concrete causes higher fuel consumption. For example:

- ½ m3 = 1200 kg hardened concrete in the mixerdrum

- 120 km / day with 200 operating days a year per mixertruck

- fuel price € 1,30 / Liter

€ 1300,- EXTRA FUEL COSTS / YEAR

(5 liter/(1200kg build-up and 120 km/day)  x € 1,30 x 200 days)

 

LOST CAPACITY / LOST TURNOVER

The above named ½ m3 hardened concrete remainder causes also a loss of capacity. For example:

- Concrete price € 80,- / m3

- 2 full loads and 2 til 3 partly loads per day / mixertruck

- loss of 2 x daily ½ m3 a € 40,- = € 80,-

BY OVERWEIGHT OVERLOADED CONCRETE MIXERTRUCKS

When a mixertruck is full loaded the axleweight is normally at the maximum which is allowed. When there are still hardened concrete remainders in the drum than it could be that the truck has passed the allowed maximum axle weight. This can mean very serious trouble for the owner and the driver of the truckmixer. The measures as result of this are various in the different European countries but are that serious that is worth to think about it.
